World leaders have gathered in New York for a three-day UN millennium development goals summit to review ambitious anti-poverty targets adopted in 2000.

The “World Giving Index”, the first report of its kind looking at charitable behaviour across the world, puts Australia and New Zealand at the top of the Index.

Last month the representatives of youth from 66 countries gathered in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, to build solidarity and discuss the importance of biodiversity, vital for survival of the next generation.

Terry Jones, the Florida  pastor who planned to stage a Qur’an-burning protest on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, has decided to cancel the event.The pastor’s proposal to burn the Qur’an had drawn criticism from Barack Obama and religious and political leaders across the Muslim world.Full story on the Guardian website.
